Royal Palace to Open to the Public

Gardens at the Marivent Palace to become accessible to the public

With some €1.5 million spent each year on the upkeep of the magnificent palace that sits on the headland of Cala Major to the west of Palma, it would be a shame not to make it available to the public whilst the family are not in residence.

The Balearic Government has said that an agreement will be signed with the Spanish Royal family to ensure that during the 10 or so months of the year that they are not using the residence, the gardens will be open to the public. King Felipe VI and his family will making their annual summer trip to the island of Mallorca this year but it is the King's mother Queen Sofia who has been the most frequent visitor in recent years.

The Royal family has been coming to Mallorca and to the Marivent Palace since 1973 when the King's father, Juan Carlos, was himself just a Prince. Despite the Royal Palace of La Almudaina in the heart of Palma being an official 'Royal site' and being open to the public, it is only used for official ceremony and State receptions. The Marivent Palace has always been the King's private summer residence and therefore never open to the public.

We look forward to being able to tour the gardens of the Palace very shortly!
